Policies and Privacy

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Peer Review

All submissions undergo editorial screening and peer review to ensure scholarly quality and relevance to the journal’s scope. The journal follows a fair and confidential review process.

Publication Ethics

The journal is committed to publication ethics and expects authors, reviewers, and editors to adhere to standards regarding authorship, originality, plagiarism, conflicts of interest, and corrections/retractions where necessary.

Editorial Board Policy

The Editorial Board provides academic guidance to the journal by advising on editorial policies, ensuring the journal’s scope and quality standards, supporting the peer-review process through reviewer recommendations and subject-matter input, and promoting the journal to the scholarly community. Board members may be invited to review manuscripts, advise on special issues, and contribute to the journal’s strategic development and research integrity practices.

Publication Fees

The journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 500,000 per accepted article. This fee is payable only upon acceptance. The journal does not impose submission fees, editorial processing charges, page charges, or colour charges at any stage from submission to publication.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Lontar Physics Today acknowledges the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly work. It supports their responsible use to assist authors in idea development, language improvement, literature exploration, and technical support. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their submissions and must transparently disclose any use of AI tools within the manuscript. Generative AI tools may not be listed as authors and must not replace core scholarly responsibilities, including the creation or manipulation of images, figures, or original research data. Editors and peer reviewers are required to maintain confidentiality and must not upload unpublished manuscripts or review materials into AI systems.

Preprint Policy

This journal accepts manuscripts that have been previously made available as preprints (e.g., on OSF Preprints, arXiv, SSRN, Research Square, or other reputable preprint servers), provided that the work has not been formally published in a peer-reviewed journal. Authors must disclose the preprint at submission by providing the platform name and the preprint link (URL) and/or DOI, if applicable. Posting a preprint is not considered prior publication; however, the submitted manuscript must comply with this journal’s publication ethics, originality requirements, and similarity screening policy. If the manuscript is accepted and published in this journal, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record by adding a full citation and a link/DOI to the final published version. Revisions between the preprint version and the submitted version are acceptable as long as the work remains original and does not infringe any third-party rights.

Similarity Check

Lontar Physics Today applies a similarity screening as part of the editorial quality control process. Similarity checking is conducted after the peer-review stage and before final acceptance. As a general guideline, manuscripts are expected to have an overall similarity index of no more than 20%, with a tolerance of up to 25% from a single source. These values are used as editorial references rather than automatic acceptance or rejection criteria.

Certain sections may be excluded from similarity consideration, including but not limited to reference lists, properly cited quotations, standard methodological descriptions, and commonly used technical terms.

Similarity reports are interpreted by the editorial team. If substantial or inappropriate overlap is identified, authors may be asked to revise the manuscript, provide clarification, or, where necessary, the manuscript may be rejected in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics and Author Guidelines.

Data Availability Policy

The journal recommends that authors deposit the data underlying their findings in a trusted public repository (e.g., Zenodo, OSF, Dataverse, or other discipline-appropriate repositories) whenever possible. Authors should include a Data Availability Statement in the manuscript describing where and how the data can be accessed, including persistent identifiers (e.g., DOI) and any access restrictions.

When data cannot be shared publicly due to ethical, legal, privacy, confidentiality, or third-party restrictions, authors must clearly state the reason. In such cases, authors should indicate whether the data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request, subject to any applicable approvals or restrictions.

For studies that do not involve data (e.g., purely theoretical work) or where no new data were generated or analyzed, authors should state: “Data sharing is not applicable to this article as no datasets were generated or analyzed.”

Special Issue Policy

Lontar Physics Today may publish Special Issues or Special Collections to highlight focused themes within the scope of physics education research. Special Issues are intended to disseminate high-quality research on specific topics while maintaining the journal’s editorial standards. Manuscripts for Special Issues are submitted through the regular submission system and must follow the journal’s Author Guidelines; Special Issue submissions are identified using a thematic label provided by the journal. All manuscripts submitted to Special Issues undergo the same peer-review process as regular issues, and acceptance is based solely on scholarly merit. The journal’s editorial team manages the editorial workflow of Special Issues, and final publication decisions remain with the Editor-in-Chief. Articles accepted for Special Issues may be published on a rolling basis and later collected as a Special Issue or Special Collection. Any potential conflicts of interest are managed according to the journal’s ethical policies, and an independent editor handles manuscripts involving potential editorial conflicts to ensure fairness and transparency.

Third-party Material

If third-party material is included in an article (e.g., figures, tables, or datasets not created by the authors), authors must obtain permission where required and provide proper attribution. Third-party material may be excluded from the Creative Commons license if indicated in a credit line.

Preservation & Archiving

Lontar Physics Today is committed to ensuring long-term access to all published content.
To support digital preservation, the journal enables PKP-PN, LOCKSS, and CLOCKSS archiving support within the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The journal provides a Publisher Manifest to facilitate harvesting, storage, and distribution of journal content by participating libraries/preservation networks, subject to each service’s terms and processes.
The journal periodically checks that articles and associated files (e.g., PDFs) remain accessible through article landing pages and the journal archive. In the event of a disruption to the primary website, the preservation strategy aims to support content recovery and continued availability through applicable preservation mechanisms.
