Generative AI for Editor
This guideline sets out the responsibilities of editors of Jurnal Pengabdian Olahraga Masyarakat (JPOM) regarding generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies during the editorial process. It is aligned with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Confidentiality
- Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. Editors must not upload a manuscript, or any part of it, into generative AI tools, as this may breach the authors' confidentiality, proprietary rights, and data privacy.
- This also applies to correspondence about the manuscript, including review reports and decision letters.
2. Editorial Decisions
- Generative AI must not be used to evaluate manuscripts or to make editorial decisions. Critical judgement and decision-making remain the responsibility of the human editor.
- Editors are accountable for the editorial process, the final decision, and how it is communicated to authors.
3. Permitted Tools
Editors may use tools provided or approved by the journal for technical screening (e.g., similarity/plagiarism checks, reference and metadata checks), provided these tools comply with confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
4. Handling Suspected AI Misuse
- Editors should check that authors have included a Generative AI declaration where relevant.
- If undisclosed or inappropriate AI use is suspected, editors should contact the authors for clarification and follow the relevant COPE flowcharts.
- AI-detection tools are not fully reliable and must not be used as the sole basis for a decision.
