Generative AI for Author

This guideline explains how authors may and may not use generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, QuillBot) when preparing manuscripts for Jurnal Pengabdian Olahraga Masyarakat (JPOM). It is aligned with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Permitted Use

  • Improving the language, grammar, readability, and structure of text written by the authors.
  • Assisting with literature searching, summarising, or organising ideas, provided the authors verify every source and statement themselves.
  • Using AI tools as part of the community service program or research methods, provided the tool, version, and purpose are clearly described in the Methods section.

2. Prohibited Use

  • Listing an AI tool as an author or co-author. Authorship carries responsibilities that only humans can fulfil.
  • Generating, fabricating, or manipulating data, results, findings, or program outcomes.
  • Producing scientific conclusions, interpretations, or critical analysis without substantive human authorship.
  • Creating or altering images, figures, photographs, or documentation of activities, unless this is part of the study design and is fully explained in the Methods section.
  • Citing references suggested by AI without checking that they exist and support the cited statement.

3. Disclosure Requirement

Authors must disclose any use of generative AI in a separate section placed before the References, titled "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process". Example statement:

During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.

Basic spelling and grammar checkers do not need to be declared.

4. Author Responsibility

Authors remain fully accountable for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the entire manuscript, including any part produced with AI assistance. Authors must ensure the work is free of plagiarism, bias, and factual errors.

5. Violations

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of generative AI may lead to rejection of the manuscript, correction, or retraction of a published article, handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.
