Scoping Review of the Evidence on Solution-Focused Group Counseling for Improving Psychological Well-Being among Inmates

Abstract

Abstract. The psychological well-being of prisoners is essential in the rehabilitation process, considering that pressure and stigma within the prison environment can deteriorate mental health. Solution-Focused Group Counseling (SFGC) is an approach that emphasizes individual strengths and solutions. This study employs a scoping review method based on the Arksey and O’Malley framework and follows the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Literature was sourced from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Frontiers, resulting in five analyzed articles. The findings indicate that SFGC is effective in enhancing self-regulation, positive social relationships, life meaning, and self-acceptance. SFGC also promotes positive change within group dynamics. Further research is recommended using a longitudinal quantitative design with more diverse samples.

Abstrak. Kesejahteraan psikologis narapidana penting dalam proses rehabilitasi, mengingat tekanan dan stigma di lingkungan penjara dapat menurunkan kesehatan mental. Solution-Focused Group Counseling (SFGC) adalah pendekatan yang berfokus pada kekuatan dan solusi individu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode scoping review berdasarkan kerangka Arksey dan O’Malley serta panduan PRISMA-ScR. Literatur dari Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, dan Frontiers menghasilkan lima artikel yang dianalisis. Hasil menunjukkan SFGC efektif dalam meningkatkan regulasi diri, hubungan sosial positif, makna hidup, dan penerimaan diri. SFGC juga mendorong perubahan positif dalam kelompok. Penelitian lanjutan disarankan menggunakan desain kuantitatif longitudinal dan sampel lebih beragam.
